FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

I don't yet have any handheld device, how can I tell what the software is like to use?
The PC version has a very similar interface to the device versions, so take a look at this - but instead of clicking with the mouse, you tap or touch on the screen.  There are features in the PC version that are not available on the hand held versions, in particular Printed Match Reports, and the ability to open multiple windows to compare matches.

Which Device do you recommend to run the Windows Mobile version of ProTracker Tennis?
There are many good brands device on sale in computer stores or on the web that can be used.  You don't need a top of the range machine for ProTracker Tennis but it needs to be a  Windows Mobile based device (version 6.5, 6.1, 6.0, 5.0 or 2003 SE) with a touch-sensitive screen.  It should have a 200MHz or higher processor and 64Mb or more of memory, most devices have this. You don't need WiFi, Bluetooth or GPS, but many devices have these bundled.

I've placed an order for the PC or Windows Mobile software - how long will I it be before I can use it?
If you paid by Credit Card, you should have been presented with your Activation Key and Registration information immediately after ordering - this information will also be e-mailed to you.  The e-mail may take a couple of hours to arrive.  Once you have the details you can activate the software and you're away.  If you paid by Bank Wire Transfer you will have to wait a a few days before the your Activation Key is e-mailed to you.

I've bought ProTracker Tennis fro Windows Mobile but I cant activate it with the key?
The most likely reason for this is that the registration name you used when placing your order does not exactly match the Owner name on your device.  If the registered name appears blank on the Help > About form, it is because the Owner Name on the device has not been set up. To do this, exit ProTracker Tennis and tap on the Owner text on the Windows Today screen, and key in your name there. Then re-start ProTracker Tennis and you should see your name and be able to enter the key.

Do I have the latest version?
Please check the version history summary here.

iPhone and iPod touch Tips, Questions and Answers

Q: I'm having trouble keeping up with the match, are there any tips to help?
A: Turn off Return-of-Serve tracking, this facility makes it much harder to track a match - you could turn it on again, when you have more experience. Make full use of the default shot outcome options - to record an 'In' serve just tap once where the ball lands and look back at the play, the 'In' option will be tapped in for you after a short pause. You can adjust the delay if you want. Some users prefer not to tap-in the 'In' serves as they are played, but instead remember where the ball bounces and tap in the serve and key shot at the end of the point.

Q: While tracking what should I do if I miss a point or game but I don't know who won it?
A: Select Missed Point/Game to ? - even though the score will be wrong the players positions should be correct; when its obvious who won the point or game you missed, then use the Missed Point/Game again to assign it correctly.

Q: Why does ProTracker Tennis distinguish between Passing shots and Winners (and Out or Netted Passing Shots)?
A: This is so it can produce figures for successful and unsuccessful Net-Approaches.

Q: How do I move match files between the iPhone or iPod touch and my PC?
A: Set up a mail account on your iPhone or iPod and then you just need to press the E-mail Match button on your device when the match is completed.

Q: Are there any hidden "Cheats" in ProTracker Tennis?
A: Yes, you can play a match automatically. Tap the Tennis Racket on the Score screen and then tap on the point score (or the position where the point score is displayed) - tap on the Racket again to stop the match playing automatically. Kids love this feature - they can pit themselves against the top players and see who wins.

Windows Mobile and PC Tips, Questions and Answers

TIP: To improve visibility in bright light conditions, Tap the View Black & White option - this will cause the lines and text to stand-out.

TIP: To view Match files in date order when browsing, tap the Date button. To see more of the File names, stretch out the Name column.

TIP: Mark the position of Serves (and Returns) particularly carefully - the analysis will only be as good as the input. Make use of the auto-tap facility so you can watch the rally immediately after tapping-in the shot.

Q: How do I use ProTracker Tennis for a doubles match?
A: Simply include a '+' or '&' symbol between the names of the player's in each pair. ProTracker Tennis will then know its a doubles match and make prompts accordingly.

Q: I'm having trouble keeping up with the match, are there any tips to help?
A: Turn off Return-of-Serve tracking, this facility makes it much harder to track a match - you could turn it on again, when you're really skilled. Make full use of the auto-tap facility - to record an 'In' serve just tap once where the ball lands and look back at the play, the auto-tap will click the 'In' option for you. You can adjust the auto-tap delay if you want.

Q: How do I record Winning shot that forced a volley error, there being no bounce point for the shot?
A: The best way to do this is to Tap at the point the ball would have bounced and mark it as a Passing Shot.

Q: How do I move match files between the Windows Mobile device and my PC?
A: Press the Explore button on ActiveSync, then Browse the match file folder. Copy, or Cut, and Paste the files to the match file folder on the PC.

TIP: If you want match files to be synchronized automatically between your PC and device, create a folder in your ActiveSync Files location and change the Match File Folder location setting on the PC version to this, using the 'Sync Folder' button.  Please see the step by step instructions here.

Q: How do I e-mail a Match file to someone?
A: Launch your e-mail program and create a new mail message. Press the button to add an attachment and browse to the match file folder, select the match or matches you want. This is only useful if the person receiving the file also has ProTracker Tennis.

Q: How do I convert my trial copy to a full version?
A: When you buy ProTracker Tennis you will be sent a full activation key. Press Help->About and enter this key in place of the evaluation key shown.

Q: Are there any hidden "Cheats" in ProTracker Tennis?
A: Yes, you can play a match automatically. Tap the Tennis Racket on the Score screen then select an option from the pop-up menu. Kids love this feature - they can pit themselves against the top players and see who wins.

Q: Can I ensure I don't lose the ProTracker Tennis software and all my matches if I suffer a total battery lose?
If your device has an SD of CF memory card ProTracker Tennis can be installed on this instead of the main PDA memory.  This type of memory does not need any power so will survive a total battery loss.
To do this, select ‘No’ when the installer prompts you to install the software in the default location, and when prompted select the Memory card as the location instead. To save match files to the Memory Card you go to Options > Settings > Advanced > Folder form Match Files - and tap in a location of the card in the – for example:
\CF Card\ProTracker Tennis
or
\SD-MMCard\ProTracker Tennis

Windows Mobile Version 4 problems

When tapping on the ProTracker Tennis racket icon on the device, nothing happens.
This means that your device does not have the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 - this program is needed to run ProTracker Tennis. You can download it from Microsoft  here:
Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 - Save the file on you PC, then Sync your device and run the file on your PC - this will install it on your device.

When installing ProTracker Tennis the following message is displayed:
"Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista) or ActiveSync (XP) not installed".
or
"Microsoft CE application manager not installed"
This means that you need to install Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center if you are using Windows Vista or Microsoft ActiveSync if you are using Windows XP.  You can download these from Microsoft here:
Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center
Microsoft ActiveSync

When installing ProTracker Tennis it just shows me a list of 12 files instead of installing.
This will happen if you try to run the PocketPC cab installation file
(ProTrackerTennis42.CAB) on a PC instead of a PocketPC.  To move the file, 'Sync' your device and use the Windows Explorer to drag and drop the file to the My Documents folder on the device.  Then Tap using the File Explorer on the device to install the software.

When running ProTracker Tennis on the Device the following message appears:
"The application failed to load required components. If the .NET Compact Framework is installed on a storage card, please ensure that this card is in place and launch the application again. If this fails, re-installation of the .NET Compact Framework is recommended. Support info: -2147483645 (80000003)".
or this message
"This application (ProTracker Tennis.exe) requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device."
This means that your device does not have the 2.0 version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework - this is needed to run ProTracker Tennis. You can download it from Microsoft  here:
Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 - Save the file on you PC, then Sync your device and run the file on your PC - this will install it on your device.

Windows Mobile Version 3 problems

When trying to install ProTracker Tennis on the PocketPC the message "PTTSetup' is not a valid Pocket PC application. is displayed" .
The file (PTTSetp.exe) needs to be run on the PC, not the PocketPC. Make sure the device is Sync'd with ActiveSync before running it on your PC - the software will then be installed on the PocketPC.

When installing ProTracker Tennis it says "ActiveSync not found on this computer"?

This will happen if you try to run the PocketPC exe installation file
(PTTSetp.exe) on a PC that is not setup to link to a PocketPC - make sure you install the PC version, or 'Sync' your PocketPC before installing the PocketPC version.

When installing ProTracker Tennis it just shows me a list of 12 files instead of installing.

This will happen if you try to run the PocketPC cab installation file
(ProTrackerTennis.CAB) on a PC instead of a PocketPC.  To move the file, 'Sync' your PocketPC and use the Windows Explorer to drag and drop the file to the My Documents folder on the device.  Then Tap using the File Explorer on the device to install the software.

After installing ProTracker Tennis on the PocketPC when I run it I get the message "Cannot find 'ProTracker Tennis' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available." or
"ProTracker Tennis Requires the installation of netcf.core.ppc3.arm.cab for it to run properly. Install the Cab file before running the application"
This means that your PocketPC does not have the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework - this program is needed to run ProTracker Tennis. You can download it from Microsoft  here:
Microsoft .NET Compact Framework

With the PC version the Setup reports the message "This setup requires the .NET Framework version 1.1.4322. Please install the .NET Framework and run this setup again. The .NET Framework can be obtained from the web. Would you like to do this now?"
This means that the PC does not have the required Microsoft .NET Framework installed. Download it as prompted, or from the link below, and install it before running the ProTracker Tennis setup again.
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

On Windows Vista ProTracker crashes when a shot menu is 'Auto-Tapped'.
This is caused by a fault in the Microsoft .NET Framework, please download and install the following:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 SendKeys Update

On the PocketPC the virtual keyboard (or other input panel) is not displayed when adding a comment.
You do not have the latest version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework - you need version 1.0 SP2 or later for this to work. Also, on certain PocketPCs you may need to tap the "Add Comment" option twice.
